What is Disney+? (aka Disney Plus)

As the name suggests, Disney+ is built around legacy content from Disney’s major entertainment studios. These include Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, and National Geographic. At launch, Disney+ also includes select films from 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, and Touchstone Pictures. Perhaps more importantly, the streaming service features original scripted and non-scripted content.

How Much Does It Cost?

Disney Plus is $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year. For this, you can download unlimited content on up to 10 devices and stream titles on up to four devices at the same time. You can also create up to seven user profiles per Disney+ account. There’s also a Disney+ bundle that includes ESPN+ and Hulu for $12.99 per month. You’ll save $5 per month off the price of buying the three services separately. Additionally, if you already have a Hulu account (without ads), it’s possible to connect it to your Disney Plus account by following these steps.

What Devices Does it Work On?

Featuring closed captioning and descriptive audio, some Disney+ content is available in English, Spanish, Dutch, French, and additional languages. It also streams in resolutions up to 4K Ultra HD in Dolby Vision and HDR 10. Where available, it also supports Dolby Atmos sound. Here are the links for the app on the major platforms:

In early 2020, it will become available in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Ireland, and locations in Western and Eastern Europe, the Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.

Disney+ Content: Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and Tons More

Offering a mix of legacy and original content, Disney+ arrives with over 7,000 television episodes and 500 films, with more expected to get added in the weeks and months ahead. In general, if something is owned by Disney, it will eventually make its way to Disney+, although this won’t happen right away. Classic animated features such as Pinocchio and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will have a strong presence, as will Disney Channel hits like Descendants. Newer films, like the recent Toy Story 4, and upcoming Frozen 2, and Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, will arrive after theatrical and home-video releases. All the Star Wars films will also have a prominent place on the service, as will films set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Original content highlights include:

“The Mandalorian,” an outer-space adventure set after the events of the original Star Wars trilogy.“Earth to Ned,” a half-hour talk show from the Jim Henson Company. Think The Tonight Show hosted by extraterrestrial Muppets with real celebrity guests.Up to eight new Marvel Cinematic Universe television series, including “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and “WandaVision.”An untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars series starring Ewan McGregor.“Diary of a Female President” from CBS Television Studios.Reimagined versions of classic films, including Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Cheaper by the Dozen.

Is Disney+ Worth it?

Given the boatload of content that’s already online, Disney+ sounds like an amazing deal for anyone who obsesses over all things Disney, Star Wars, Marvel and no doubt even more content with its recent acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Better still, it’s just $6.99 per month and includes up to seven user profiles per account. That’s less than the cost of one ticket in movie theaters. And you get all of this with a seven-day free trial.

Disney Plus Price Update:
